James Midwinter is a photographer and film maker based in London.
Cinema is extremely influential in his work and his love of the apocalypse, smoke and violent, dark subtexts is interesting, if slightly worrying.
His style of faded, bleak, desaturated imagery is probably a reaction to his cosy, powerfully middle class upbringing in verdant Leamington Spa.
From helping found the iconic photo magazine Ten-8, to photographing the intifada in Gaza in the late 80’s and the civil war in Sri Lanka, one could certainly observe that John Reardon’s career has been diverse. In 2001, John began a series of chef portraits for the Observer Food Monthly magazine, winning the Glenfiddich Food and Drink Award for Visual Work, twice. He is currently putting his years of experience and expertise to extraordinary use, photographing thoroughbred race horses around the world. The stallions, worth £10s of millions of pounds, are frequently put in a studio set up and photographed in front of 26x26ft canvases.
John has recently photographed equally energetic poster campaigns for Camino.
